Poker Player Who Brawled with NFL Star Wants Rematch in the Boxing Ring on PPV
Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson could get a rematch from the poker player he brawled with inside a Texas poker room in May. But this time, the fight might take place on Pay-Per-View instead of the JokerStars card room in Houston.
Peterson, who retired from the NFL in 2021 after 15 stellar seasons, has become a mainstay in Texas poker clubs. He’s even appeared on Hustler Casino Live and the Celebrity Poker Tour (CPT). But his poker career is most known for getting into a fistfight with another player at JokerStars.
That player, Joe “Baby Joe” Castaneda, wants a rematch, and he’s looking to get paid out of the deal, TMZ Sports reports.
Will Football Legend Fight on PPV?
Peterson was involved in a one-on-one fistfight with Castaneda at JokerStars, during a poker game. The fight video was leaked through TMZ a month later, and it made headline news across all mainstream sports outlets. Both players threw some punches that landed, but neither seemed to have the upper hand.
Both fighters have since said the dispute has been resolved and they’re still friends. But Castaneda sees an opportunity to make a buck off the leaked video. He told TMZ that he’d step into the boxing ring against Peterson if there’s a monetary benefit involved.
“I wouldn’t shy away from it,” Castaneda, 47, said.
Castaneda said he isn’t sure if Peterson would be down to throw down. But the Minnesota Vikings legend and future Pro Football Hall of Famer has some experience in the boxing ring. Experience that he’d probably like to forget, however.
The poker room fight took place inside Houston’s JokerStars, a card room that made headlines days later for a cheating scandal. Three players and a former employee were caught executing a sophisticated cheating operation using RFID technology and a concealed card reader.
